Session Information
13 SES 12, ‘Rigour’, ‘Discipline’ and the ‘Systematic’ in Educational Research? Fetish or Fundamental? (Part 1)
Symposium to be continued in 13 SES 13
Contribution
David Bridges will provide a short introduction to the symposium, acknowledging the evolutionary character of academic disciplines but also reaffirming the case for research as rule governed, ‘disciplined’ and with its own rigour. Without these it reaches a stage in its evolution resonant of Shakespeare’s seventh age of ‘man’ – ‘sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything’ and provides academic legitimation to a post truth politics.
