Session Information
31 SES 01 A, Meet Network 31 Session: Invited speaker Rita Franceschini & networking
Opening session of NW31 with invited speaker and networking possibilities
Contribution
The Autonomous Province of South Tyrol has found a particular answer to the schooling demands of different populations. First of all, autochthonous populations ask for the preservation of their heritage language, at the same time the multilingual challenges in a globalized word asks for more linguistic and intercultural skills.
Because in South Tyrol the majority of the population pertains to the German-speaking community, the most prominent branch of the school system should deserve German-speaking families; the same is true for Italian- and Ladin-speaking families. The school systems are established in parallel.
But schooling issues are not so easily to divide, and the immigration of the last decades has brought even more diversity, as everywhere. How the school system in South Tyrol faces these old and new challenges will be at the center of the talk, which has the aim to give simply an overview.
Method
This invited lecture aims at engaging with the setting of this year's ECER conference from the perspective of Language and Education.
Expected Outcomes
After the presentation, the Network Convenors would like to offer participants the possibility to network with each other with the aim of planning joint activities (e.g. joint papers or projects).
