02 SES 06 B, Challenges and Examples of Apparent Good Practices in VET-Teacher Education - the PRO-VET Project
Symposium
Contribution
The PRO-VET (PRO-VET 2022) project refers to the “Professional Development of Vocation Education Teachers [in Russia and Serbia] with European Practices”, although it is clear that no joint “European practices” (or even joint European Union practices) exist (cp. CEDEFOP 2016). Nevertheless, all VET-teacher education and further education systems in every country feature strengths and weaknesses. For the sake of the success of the project, case studies in chosen EU member states were undertaken to determine examples of apparent good practice in policies and VET-teacher (further) education that might serve as models for Russia and Serbia. The EU countries inquired were Finland, Germany, Ireland, and the Netherlands. Methods applied included desktop research referring to regulations and curricula combined with semi-structured interviews of chosen experts (for example, lecturers from VET-teacher education faculties of the participating universities). Findings revealed the following strengths of policies, the educational surroundings and the VET-teacher (further) education systems: Finland: • High appreciation of the profession of teaching. • Focus on formal assessment during the lectures. The Netherlands: • Co-operation of VET-teacher students with companies, run by apprentices. • Advanced in semantic learning analytics. Germany: • Strong involvement of companies in the dual system, co-operation of learning venues. • Curricula in VET-teacher education offer a good balance between technology and pedagogics. Ireland: • Very advanced in applying information and communication technology (ICT) for remote lectures. This first presentation of the symposium offers an insight of the potential for mutual learning for the colleagues from Russia and Serbia who will share in the two presentations their need analyses and the choices they made.
