Contribution
Swedish national QA system for Higher Education also includes Teacher Education. The system is general and no special provisions are applied to TE. The National Agency for Higher Education is the acting and accountable body. Current system highlights conditions, processes and outcomes of programs. A reform of the system is announced with an increased focus on outcome. When the current national system for TE was established in 2001 it included a requirement on every HEI awarding TE degrees to have a special responsible board accountable for TE and its QA. A major reform of TE is announced and it is expected that this regulation will be abolished. When a program is established, or re-established a HEI needs to apply for approval of the proposed TE program. As TE is under national reform it is announced that all TE programs need to seek such approval before start of new programs. The system appears to be different from a traditional accreditation system in its form but not in essence although there are no formulated standards. On a local level TE programs, and if there are TEI, they are included in the QA system of each HEI.
