Contribution
Since the last three decades pedagogical approaches have inspired public spheres to realize demands of social and biographical navigation on a more sensitive and on a more sophisticated level as ever before. By the way a special kind of pedagogy – we may call it “pedagogy of public systems” (Vetter 2008) – has risen up and from historical as well as from a functional viewpoint it does a very good job for people`s welfare. But meanwhile from a professional point of view – not from a political one – modern adult pedagogy get aware of the complex consequences this new approach represents: Concerning the fact that public pedagogy includes all fields of social services and civil systems it has to respect a very complex variety of political functions, economic aims, social supports and subjective self-definitions. These burdens are known indeed very well but in general this knowledge does not play a real important role regarding conceptualizations of practical measurements concerning subjectivity and micro-social ecologies. Especially the ones of addressed personal authenticity demand high effectiveness and tolerance towards the self-playing roles of the clients. Therefore the concept of “habitus” may be a key approach to enlighten the complicated interactions as transmitters of advancement and help. Habitus is defined as a hidden mechanism of allocation which determines placement and prestige of an individual in regard of social settings or – to use Bourdieu`s terminology itself – of its placement in social spaces. The mechanism which defines this placement happens unconsciously and it creates a specific type of milieu. According to the sustainable effects of socialization, individuation and enculturation “personality” gets bound to “milieu” as an social environment which express its own creating of living, loving, every-day-culture, aesthetics and anomies (Ecarius 1995). Against the background of the official system of employment agency of Germany we are interested to deconstruct the role of the “habitus”- concept (in the sense of Bourdieus`s Sociology) in regard of the chances these processes will comprehend to both agency as well as customer. Our referring thesis is based on three systematic observations:
· The important empirical function of habitus generally will be undervalued within the practical arrangements of social bureaucracies;
· Habitus-concepts play an essential role as a hidden curriculum within these arrangements. Estimated aims of successful re-integration are influenced in a broad manner by individualized social-psychological and aestetical dimensions of customer as well as of the agent.
· The concrete dyads of interaction between the agency and the client/customer across official regulations are embedded in an own interpersonal atmosphere. And this authentic frame of interaction and atmosphere in the last resort decides success and acceptance of the implemented advancement and its aims (Etges 2009).
