12 SES 15 A, Educating Educational Researchers by Open Educational Research Infrastructure Design
Symposium
Contribution
Open Data, in combination with Open Access and Open Materials, forms a pivotal element of Open Science practices. The integration of Open Data in educational research has the potential to engender a paradigm shift within the field by enhancing transparency, fostering innovation, and enabling more robust and replicable studies. By rendering data openly available, researchers can build upon each other's work, leading to cumulative knowledge and accelerated scientific progress. There has been a growing recognition of the value of Open Data in enhancing the credibility and impact of research over the past two decades. Initiatives such as the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), the Open Science Framework (OSF) and the FAIR data principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) have played a significant role in promoting Open Data practices in various scientific disciplines, including educational research. The current contribution aims to shed more light on the aspects of transparency and innovation through open data, and to discuss the advantages of open data for the integrity of educational science as well as ethical issues, on the one hand, and aspects of innovation, on the other. Finally, the main challenges and future prospects of open data in Europe are discussed.
