This paper presents the results obtained in a study focused on academic plagiarism committed by Balearic Islands post-secondary education students (17-18 years old). The main aim of this study is to know which are the strategies and the attitudes of these students when they have to research academic information for their coursework.
The main results show that academic plagiarism prevalence amongst Balearic Islands post-secondary students it is quite high: up to 82% admits to copy and paste different paragraphs on the Net without referencing them for their academic works –collage plagiarism-. And on the other hand their information searching and locating skills are very deficient; based on very simple and rudimentary search strategies using mainly the search engine Google.
