Symposium, continues in 22 Ses 13 C
Contribution
This paper proposes an approach to the theme of employability of graduates that focuses on the relevance of professional learning, integrating contributions from research taking into account the relationship between training and employment. It intends to show the importance of deepening knowledge on the interaction between individuals’ trajectories, training institutions and world of work, raising questions about the dynamics of professional learning. Firstly, we recognize processes of change as well as we take into account the complexity of the concept of "employability". We also point out that the priorities of the Bologna process motivate the diversification and discussion of issues and dimensions for theoretical and empirical analysis concerning transition from higher education to the world of work. Secondly, based on research results in European countries already published we reflect about possible guidelines for a line of inquiring focused on professional learning dynamics, stemming from training experiences in different contexts (personal, educational and professional) during transition trajectories. Thirdly, we stress the relevance of expanding knowledge about the subsystems of higher education in Portugal, since we argue that a global perspective on higher education (considering both universities and polytechnics) is lacking within research focusing employability of graduates.
