26 SES 12 A, Empirical Findings on Superintendents - Comparative Purpose

The paper will present the role and tasks of superintendents (kurator) in Poland paying special attention to the execution of pedagogical supervision over schools and other educational institutions. We will discuss the most recent changes in pedagogical supervision (introduced by the Minister of National Education, resolution of 7 October 2009) and Polish government’s proposal about the evaluation system of quality in education which is currently being developed in Poland. The new pedagogical supervision act instituted by the Minister of National Education significantly changed the way pedagogical supervision is executed in Poland by introducing the division into three forms of the supervision: control of school’s compliance with legal regulations, support to schools and educational institutions and evaluation of their work.
