Contribution

The purpose of this research proposal is to examine the superintendent’s educational leadership role. This research project links directly to earlier and ongoing studies of superintendents in United States, Sweden, South Africa and India. The Swedish research projects mentioned below also involve researchers from Norway, Denmark and Finland. The participants are all members in the International Superintendents Research Network (ISRN). The purpose of the network is to convene researchers in a global effort to study the district school superintendent. This paper is designed to: i) Present the approach to be used in this particular project; and ii) ii) Present definitions and brief narratives of each system we are comparing. This narrative allows for a basic understanding of each system as a platform on which to construct the research project.
