Contribution

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the Norwegian school superintendents’ leadership role in the light of community of practice theory. Three practice elements emerge from the data analysis: Senior leadership teamwork, emergent discourses with school principals and professional ties to superintendent colleagues. Further, the relationship between various community engagements and work empowerment is discussed.
