Mental health can be defined as a state of well-being enabling individuals to realize their abilities, cope with the normal stresses of life, work productively and fruitfully, and make a contribution to their communities (WHO, 2003). Mentally healthy teacher aware their abilities, cope with the difficulty, especially at school and fulfill duties and responsibilities. Teacher must to have mental health because they are person who raise pupil and prepare them for life. Mental health that their reflected in classroom behavior is important. For child his classroom experiences and interaction with teacher are a significiant part of his life and exert a molding personality. But teachers’ mental health is ignoring, whereas it must considered both teacher preparation process and teacher selection process. One study indicate that students with psychiatric disabilities are an increasing presence on college and university campuses. (Collins & Mowbray, 2005) Another study found that college officials indicate that the number of students with serious mental illnesses has risen significantly (Mowbray, C. T.,Deborah M., Mandiberg, J. M., Strauss, S., Stein, C. H., Collins, K., Kopels, S, Curlin, C. and R. Lett, 2006). A study in Turkey revealed that educatşon faculty students’ mental health not good (Koç and Polat, 2006). Another matter is that in problem situation help seeking activation or not. Help seeking gives hope, comfort, and possible instrumental benefits to ease the distress (Kung, 2003). Help seeking orientation was occurrenced in two ways: in terms of willingness to seek help in general and in terms of willingness to seek help from mental health professionals rather than general practitioners (Rickwood and Braitwaite). Despite the considerable distress and disability associated with the disorder and the availability of treatment options, many patient usually are not inclined to seek healthcare (Beşiroğlu and Ağargün, 2006). This study intend to point out that teachers’ mental health is important in teacher preparation education and teacher selected system. The purpose of this study was to examine teacher candidates’ mental health and help seeking behavior.
