Contribution

The major purpose of this study is to deepen the knowledge on the problematic of project development/management in an organizational structure and school culture. Projects developed in an opened and integrated perspective of social and school diversity; with community participation; guided towards self-evaluation and promoting curricular and educational articulation. In this study a multidisciplinary

theoretical framework was used. This framework encompasses sociology of the education, with institutional inspiration, and management, with purpose of clarifying in what ways, School Educative Projects are, on a day-by-day basis, run and developed. We expect also to devise main references and guidelines for the configuration and practice of the many educative projects developed by teachers in school.

Method

This research is qualitative in nature, using a case study approach. After collecting and analyzing pertinent documents, interviews with major educative players will be carried out. The opinion of these players will be helpful in discussing the results and drawing conclusions. The case under study is the “Agrupamento de Escolas Serra da Gardunha – Portugal” in the 2011-2012 academic year. The documents to be analyzed are, basically, proposals and plans of the variety of school projects, as well as its School Educative Project. We will interview four educative players with institutional and operational abilities in the supervision and coordination of the projects in the Agrupamento: School Chairman; Director/Chairman of the Conselho Pedagógico, Chairman of the Project Board and one representative of the Internal Evaluation Group.

Expected Outcomes

The expected outcomes of the study are linked with the pursuing of its objectives: 1- Identifying the basic contributions of the conceptual analysis (in the framework of sociology of education and management) for the development of projects of educative nature; 2- Listing the most important attributes of a School Educative Project as an instrument of strategic planning and management, and promoter of social and educational networks; 3- Identifying the nature, and the different types, of the educational projects within the school; 4- Reveling the existence and the level of articulation between projects and the School Educative Project In this way, the conclusions of the study will help the school in its decision making process, as well as in the actions taken to promote the school, as a quality institution of permanent and continuing learning.
