11 SES 12 A, Is Quality of Educational Institution Influenced by Educational Leadership? I
Symposium, Part 1
Contribution
This paper will present an insight from Scotland into initial research undertaken regarding “Leadership and its Impact on Quality of Educational Institutions". The educational institutions referred to from the Scottish context, will be those within the primary education sector (approximately 5 to 12 years old). This paper will focus on a discussion of data collected from 10 questionnaires examining leadership and quality within education. The participants included current head teachers and promoted staff who may be aspiring to leadership roles and also class teachers all from the primary education sector. Semi-structured interviews conducted with 3 of the interview participants one from each category (head teacher, aspiring to leadership and class teachers) will also be discussed as these provide greater depth than afforded by the questionnaires alone, and also allow a greater understanding of the relevant leadership situations to be examined. It is hoped that this paper will add to the ongoing international discussions surrounding the subject of “Leadership and its Impact on Quality of Educational Institutions” and allow for researchers to begin undertaking a correlation of this within the European setting. Data provided here should be seen as a starting point for this ongoing research and dialogue.
