Symposium, Part 1
Joint Session with NW 13
Contribution
This paper develops the idea of intercultural philosophy as a new paradigm for educational philosophy based on the idea of place and the location of location. The Council of Europe promotes intercultural dialogue in Europe, and between Europe and its neighbouring regions viewing dialogue between cultures as the oldest and most fundamental mode of democratic conversation and a major policy means to overcome to rejection and violence with the objective of enabling us to live together peacefully and constructively in a multicultural world and to develop a sense of community and belonging (http://www.coe.int/t/dg4/intercultural/). This ideological conception offered by the Council of Europe of intercultural dialogue in the “Opatija Declaration” of 2003 and in the “White Paper on Intercultural Dialogue” focuses on the values of openness and respect that “leads to a deeper understanding of the other’s global perception”. In this paper we will argue for a conception of intercultural philosophy in education that takes place as central to understanding culture and the nature of dialogue.
