17 SES 12, Knowledge in Education: Circulations, Transformations, Implementations in a Transnational Perspective Part 1
Symposium
Contribution
Following the trauma of the 1851 French coup, the main actors of the Third Republic found refuge in Switzerland. French-speaking Switzerland plays a singular place of exile, when we know that its identity was formed in opposition to the French cultural model, in particular by the research for new references drawn from the popular German-speaking literature. We will thus try to show that this antagonism didn’t curb the educational transfers between French-speaking Switzerland and France. Perhaps because the French outcasts, mainly protestants, undertook a similar absorption process, based on the translation of specific German pedagogical materials, beforehand interpreted by Switzerland.
