100 Hungarian teachers - with different experience, teaching different subjects in different types of schools - were interviewed. Approximately 100 interview questions covered the main areas of teacher pedagogical beliefs like: - the role of schooling in a society, - the important values as aims of education, - the content of teaching - the views on children -the goals of teaching as well as such elements of the school practice as: -planning -motivating -using the teaching methods - differentiation /dealing with talented and low achieving pupils/ -evaluation. In the presentation we will analyse the main results of the interviews on the above mentioned belief areas and practical activities. We will focus our discussion on the interrelationships between teachers general educational philosophy and their views on the: - importance of planning, - function of planning - types of planning and their changes in the time of decentralisation, - sequences of planning. The consequences will be drawn on pre- and inservice education.
