This paper is set out to discuss the rationale behind the design and dissemination of a distance learning course for training teachers of learners with severe and complex special educational needs (SEN) in the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) across the curriculum. The partnership has been one of the approved national providers to deliver the specialist training since 2000. Preliminary findings of the approach point out the problems in the content and the delivery of a distance-learning course within the SEN field and the dichotomy between teachers' expectations and the set of the national Expected Outcomes. The paper also discusses the emerging issues of the existing technological provisions at schools and support services along with the necessity to cater for the training needs of other integral groups of the school setting.
