Life existence and non-formal adult education (folkbildning) are two phenomena who has lived close to each other. We often hear that humane knowledge can be developed from the ground. To create your own life is something that we connect with the tradition of folkbildning. The question is how people of today do describe their life and learning in the context of folkbildning?A research project has been studying young adults born between 1973 and 1983. They are known as the first generation of "the knowledge society". Thirteen participants have been interviewed. The methodology used is a narrative approach and the theoretical perspectives are hermeneutic and deconstructive. For these young adults their own life is in focus. Their narratives show how they use their language to create identity. Strategies that give them competences to live under constant change. If there has been unity in language and individuality in their early ages, today language is more flowing and has become a process of deconstruction. A process that influence young adults in their view of life and learning.
