So called Pupil Voice is currently understood as one of the important factors of school development and its effectiveness. Latest reports show that concentrated attention to Pupil Voice - and subsequential work of adults of school with it - might have a great potential in relation to the desirable change in the school environment supporting learning.Pupil Voice has not been fully appreciated in the Czech Republic to date - neither within the framework of school operation nor in context of the development of pupils' personalities and social skills. This is all the more apparent in the light of the fact that no specific study devoted particularly to the topic of the Pupil Voice (or to the broader subject of pupil participation) has appeared in the Czech Republic since 1989.The paper presents results of a research dealing with principals' opinions and attitudes to Pupil Voice and to pupil participation in the daily life of Czech schools. The primary objective is charting the opinions of principals regarding the Pupil Voice as well as pupil participation in the contemporary school system - its form, function and implementation in day-to-day school operation. The analysis provides a point of departure for subsequent empirical research in the field. The data is collected as a part of a larger research for doctoral thesis. We use a qualitative methodology based on interviews with principals and other qualitative techniques. The results will contribute to a broadening and - to a certain extent - a consolidation of present-day knowledge regarding the Pupil Voice and pupil participation in Czech schools. The outcomes of the research are also potentially applicable in the context of school operation as well as by scholars in the field of pedagogy.FIELDING, M.
