01 SES 13 B, Formative Assessments for Teachers: Issues about Quality, Design Characteristics and Impact on Teacher Learning
Symposium
Contribution
In this paper we present a Competence Assessment Program (CAP) (Baartman et al., 2007) in online professional development for k-12 teachers framed by four dimensions for quality assessment in a digital context: authenticity, consistency, transparency, and practicability (Pereira, Oliveira and Tinoca, 2010). In particular, the presented CAP consists of a combination of different assessment methods, including alternative forms of assessment - the e-folio and the p-folio. Two main research questions were asked: 1) Do the participating teachers recognize de proposed CAP as a consistent, fair and relevant assessment strategy for their learning? and 2) Are the proposed digital assessment quality dimensions (authenticity, consistency, transparency, and practicability) reflected in the proposed assessment activities. The results show that the CAP is recognized as suitable for teacher learning, and that the quality dimensions are reflected satisfactory in the assessment activities. Results will be used to build on the participants’ responses concerning the integrity of the CAP being used. Moreover, assessment strategies will be more improved used in order to further enhance their reflection of the online quality assessment dimensions proposed.
