03 SES 09, Systemic Forces in Curriculum Processes: Conditions for Lasting Change
Symposium
Contribution
Curriculum development in Ireland has been increasingly influenced by a number of collaborations between the national curriculum development agency and schools. Findings from these projects have already influenced the direction of important curriculum developments and curriculum policy in general. It has emerged through the lives of some of these projects that the data coming through from schools (management, teachers and learners) is very rich and could have a significant impact on the practice of other teachers. The challenge presenting at the moment is how to best exploit the knowledge being created through these projects, share that knowledge to make it accessible to others (i) within the organisation and (ii) to the wider audience of the education community and ensure that it impacts on curriculum policy. This contribution to the symposium explores how a curriculum development agency can maximise the value gained from working with schools, and thereby improve the impact on curriculum policy and practice, through the development of knowledge management competencies and systems. It will draw on qualitative research with curriculum developers who have worked closely with schools on these curriculum development projects.
