As about 80% of Czech population goes through VET providing professional qualifications there is an important issue if acquired education of secondary school leavers is in agreement with performed professions. The National Institute of Technical and Vocational Education analysed this situation last year - that is again after five years. The main aim of this analysis was, first of all to find out how secondary school leavers in the Czech Republic use acquired education in professional life from the vocational point of view. The analysis covered economic active inhabitants aged 20- 24, complementary age group 25-29 and all economic active inhabitants. The analysis used the data from a selective research of the Labour Force Survey which is regularly carried out by the Czech Statistical Office and involves a cohort of 60 000 workers. This cohort was also a source of data: On education, which a worker followed (classification in 60 groups) and the job which a worker performs according to the Jobs Catalogue KZAM (ISCO-88) with a four-figure job classification. The assessment of an agreement between acquired education and performed jobs was carried out using a four-figure scale: A full agreement, B partial agreement, C partial disagreement, D big disagreement. The assessment according to a uniform methodology was carried out by two NUOV experts ( both were guarantors of a branch of education ) independently for each branch of education. The analysis dealt with 20 core branches of education which were classified according to the level of education i.e. apprentices, apprentices with the Maturita certificate and school leavers of study branches training students for middle management positions (white collar occupations). The results of the analysis contain both information on an agreement of education and a job in these three educational levels and secondary VET school leavers as a whole. Generally, there is a high value of a big disagreement between acquired education and a performed job in all three basic educational levels of secondary school leavers in the Czech Republic. In average there are 37% of workers with apprenticeship certificates, 43% of workers with both apprenticeship and Maturita certificates and 37% of secondary technical school leavers who perform jobs which have nothing to do with their education. From the viewpoint of branches the highest value of a big disagreement is in case of workers with an apprenticeship certificate in leather industry and shoe production (63%) and in electrotechnical and chemical branches (61%). As to school leavers with the Maturita certificate for building, glass, plastics and textile and clothing specialisations about 44-46% perform a job which in principle does not correspond to their previously acquired education. Recently employers in the Czech Republic have stressed the shortage of secondary school leavers and those with an apprenticeship certificate in technical branches. They exert pressure on the educational system using a regulation of educational opportunities with aim to increase the number of students. This requirement is in conflict with general development trends of labour forces in the EU, development of the labour force needs after industry restructuring in the Czech Republic and the principle of equal access to education. High values of a big disagreement just in the aforementioned core branches follows from the analyses which were made This fact breeds doubts if it is the problem of the low number of school leavers. The reason is rather low interest of students and their parents in education in these branches as well as low interest of school leavers in working on present conditions in these jobs. Conclusions show a considerable disagreement between acquired education and performed jobs. The extent of the disagreement is increasing in comparison with a previous research. This fact is necessary to take into account in the concept of the educational policy. That is why it is necessary to train school leavers with a broad professional profile lying stress on general education, a higher share of VET aiming at its general aspects and development of transferable competencies. The following aspects are also very important: first of all the ability and readiness to be educated, communication skills, work in a team, adaptability to new requirements and ability to address problems. In addition, nowadays there are also routine requirements for language skills and computer literacy. On this conditions school leavers can perform a great range of jobs and they are not bound to one and only specific job.
