This study analyzes changes in the aims of the curriculum oriented towards the development of curricula that would form competences of intercultural communication. Further on, the study analyzes problems of the development of the competences of intercultural communication. The investigation of these problems began with the analysis of the role of educology and languages for the educational development of medical studies, and the creation of the environment for learning to communicate in an intercultural team (Bruneviciute, Veckiene, 2003; Bruneviciute et al., 2004). This study focuses on the possibilities for overcoming the barriers stipulated by different professional cultures through the cooperation of physicians and social workers. On the basis of the theories of the social construction of the reality (Berger, Luckman, 1999; Payne, 1996) and the management of educational changes (Fullan, 1993; Dalin et al., 1993; Hopkins, 1994; Hargreaves, 1998), as well as when developing the curriculum characterized by the dimension of intercultural cooperation, the problem of the lack of sufficient evaluation of the practical prerequisites for the creation of such curriculum emerges. The study is aimed at the substantiation of the changes in the cooperation-oriented curriculum on the basis of the findings of practical investigations. The objectives of the study are the following: to generalize the results of the inductive (qualitative) investigation of the attitudes of physicians and social workers towards the development of the functions and their distribution in practical activity; to perform the analysis of the aims of the curriculum of the training and education of physicians and social workers; to substantiate the changes in the curriculum oriented towards intercultural cooperation on the basis of the transfer theory. The object of the study is the changes of the aims in the curriculum of the training and education of physicians and social workers. The methods applied in the study are content analysis and interpretation. The main result of the study is the principles of the changes of the aims in the curriculum of the training and education of physicians and social workers, assuring the constant renewal of these aims as well as the flexibility and effectiveness of the curricula in general.
