There is a high level of interest in PISA among Japanese people. Japanese society was shocked by the results of PISA 2003 because the performance of Japanese students in 2003 was lower than 2000, especially most students did not write their own responses at all. Some researchers pointed out this is related to cultural differences between the Western and Japan. PISA's test items are not familiar with Japanese students who have a 'silent culture' as particular Japanese. As is commonly known, major domain is scientific literacy in the 2006 PISA. Science is also based on cultural context as well as gender. If modern science consists of the Western, white male perspective, non-Western females will exist in different culture. The research questions in this presentation will be about what PISA science is for non-Western girls.
