Session Information
Contribution
Based on numerous studies, we interviewed teachers and nurses from three professional cohorts young teachers and nurses with circa one year professional experience, teachers and nurses with 8-10 years professional experience and teachers and nurses with long, circa 30 years, professional experience. We applied narrative biographical interviews (life story interviews). In the analysis the themes of professional work and life have been identified. By locating life stories to socio-historical contexts, the life histories have been constituted. We are able to apply Bruner's ideal categories of reality, experience (especially key experiences) and expression or narration in our further analysis. According to our point of departure, the generational change has been followed the transformation of welfare state. Thus the hypothetical oldest generation could be a generation of professional calling, the middle generation a generation of professional experts and the young generation a generation of market services. However, varying national histories and meanings of other factors than welfare state development make the analysis more complicated.
