The data presented in this paper are interviews with individuals who participated in the PISA 2003 study in Iceland. Groups and individuals were interviewed in four different parts of Iceland. The purpose of these interviews was to hear these individuals' ideas and thoughts about the unique gender results in PISA 2003 in Iceland. In addition we presented them with two hypothesis about the results and asked them to respond to them. The hypothesis presented to them was the so-called "jokkmokk" effect hypothesis and the importance of financial security and the role it might play in girls' success in mathematics
