Contribution

The COMET research uses a common model for the diagnosis of occupational competence. The paper describes the model and its notion of occupational competence and evaluates its generalisation on different occupations and different countries. Apart from general problems of translation, it highlights the importance of occupational validity (i.e. relating tests to tasks that are typical for professional work in a given context) and the influence of different ways of organising professional work as well as VET.
