02 SES 12 B, WERA IRN-VET Forum: Internationalisation of VET Research
Symposium
Contribution
This “key activity paper” gives insights into the International VET Research Review that was presented by Wageningen University at ECER 2011 and at ECER 2013. Reviews were conducted about the VET research as presented in VETNET and published in related journals over the years 2011 and 2012. Regarding the size of this study, for the year 2011 a total of 119 and for the year 2012 a total of 173 articles were reviewed, and after a qualitative interpretation divided into seven different research themes. Regarding internationalization, or even globalization, of the VET research, it appears that: 1. The number of studies addressing international comparisons regarding VET issues is very limited. 2. Many studies presented and published however are interesting for a wide range of researchers from different countries. 3. From a global perspective, the reviews mainly addressed research from Europe, Northern-America, and Australia. VET research done in Latin-America, Asia and Africa should be linked to a wider, global review. This is timely as vocational education is key to socio-economic development of societies and employability of the labour force in terms of employment in jobs, self-employment and entrepreneurship.
