Contribution
The overall aim of the presentation is to present and discuss student teachers’ qualification process and teachers´ professional growth in the early career. The presentation stems from a project trying to capture the progress during initial teacher education and to deepen the understanding of student teachers’ progress into qualified teachers. The motives behind the project are to deepen the understanding of how they describe the further qualification process in terms of didactic thinking/reflection and actions. The research sets out from the perspective of Finnish conditions, but is to be understood in relation to more general processes of societal change. The theoretical starting-point focuses on the cognitive processes of development oriented learning, particularly, meta learning and reflection. What is learning to learn? In addition to the individually oriented aspect, learning concentrated on socialisation into the teacher profession will be dealt with. The study comprises both class teachers and subject teachers. The emphasis of the presentation will be on conceptions and experiences of teachers’ work.
