Contribution
Attending school regulate and structure children’s everyday life. The individual lifespan is to a large extent confirmed by experiences during the school years. The troubled children’s lives have often been turbulent, as they have been moving around and acquired help from different agents and systems. I will present some main results from my doctoral project called: A marginal position: Education for students in Child Care Institutions. The project focuses on school carriers of four students living in child care institutions from a relational perspective. The main question is how they experience school life and how distinct experiences influences their personal identity, how they manage the challenges in school, intellectually and socially, and how it influence their future perspectives, all on the base of distributed help from the social care institution and the school. Troubled identities will be situated and constructed, according to specific social and professional demands. The presentation will highlight how the students construct and negotiate their identity in the context of cultural and institutional conditions of possibility.
