Contribution
The purpose of this paper is to describe the process of modeling a multiprofessional, collaborative project between a University of Applied Sciences and working life. The principal lectures selected the seniorTV project for this purpose. The aim of the seniorTV project is to develop interactive TV services for the elderly either living in a service house (Foibe) or using the services of the service house. The students (Health and Social care) of Laurea University of Applied Sciences produced the content of the programs as a part of their studies. The technical implementation was produced by Videra. The researchers were the experts of the idea of modeling and produced, together with principal lectures, the presentation to the conference.
Objectives: The aim of this project was to describe the process of modeling the seniorTV project based on the idea of collaborative writing. The subject of modeling is to clarify the collaboration between University of Applied Sciences and Foibe as well as the role of the participants in this project.
Research Questions:
What kinds of benefits
1. How does the collaboration between participants develop in terms of the modeling of seniorTV?
2. What kinds of ideas sharing the seniorTV model were produced among the participants for developing teaching and learning around the seniorTV project?
Theoretical framework:
The idea of modeling in this project is based on the cultural historical activity theory (Engeström 2004). Then, learning and developing theories in practice, understanding the history of working life during the learning process, dialogical discussions during the learning process and, in general, the collaborative and situational nature of learning are in focus. Moreover, the meaning of modeling is crucial as a method of this learning approach. Furthermore, collaborative writing produces a method to develop the model and describe the process of modeling, and the ideas emerged during the process of modeling (Lambert, Reunanen & Helle 2005).
Method
The research material will comprise individual and group interviews of the participants representing various institutions collaborating in the seniorTV project (lecturers, students, personal of Foibe, seniors). The audio taped data will be analyzed by means of activity system analysis. Based on the analysis and collaborative writing, the project will develop a shared model of the seniorTV project in collaboration between the participants of seniorTV project, principal lectures of the University of Applied Sciences and the researchers.
Expected Outcomes
The shared model of the seniorTV project will describe the participants, object and division of labor and rules of collaboration in the seniorTV project. Moreover, when discussing the seniorTV project model and sharing it, the participants will produce many ideas for developing learning and teaching in the Laurea University of Applied Sciences as well as for developing the collaboration between partners in the seniorTV project: for example, in the form of different kinds of project writing products. With the help of the model, the effectiveness of seniorTV could also be evaluated. In this kind of process development of the participants´ know-how, dynamic products, services, processes, operational models and a new work culture such as a new learning and teaching culture may also emerge.
