02 SES 02 C, Educational Research: Work-Based Learning Policy Developments
Symposium
Contribution
WBL could be an effective measure to reduce social exclusion of the different groups of socially disadvantaged people (Marhuenda, Navas, 2013). As far as the demand of such measures and the pressure of socioeconomic and political environment to apply them are increasing, very often policy makers, experts and stakeholders face the challenge of the lack of know-how and experience in this field and rely on the transfer and application of experiences of other countries. This is particularly noticeable in the countries with school based initial VET system, where the application of apprenticeships so far has been very fragmentary. Theoretical framework refers to theoretical approaches of the sociology of knowledge related to the integration of academic and vocational learning (Young, 2008; Graizer, Navas, 2011). The approach of work process based VET curriculum design will help to explain the advantages of holistic work process orientation to the acquisition and mastering of competences that facilitate effective and long-term employment and enable further competence development. We developed units of WBL in different sectors like welding or floristry that are currently tested in the partner countries. Presentation will focus on structure of the units, success of the piloting and feedback received by the stakeholders involved.
