The Utopia of Thomas Moore was certainly a project that reflected the historical conditions of the time in England, plagued by religious intolerance, but well before the misery of the poorer classes and the opulence of an oligarchy accustomed to the privilege of robbery. Indeed, in terms of social inequalities, the biggest change we've seen in the twentieth century, at least in Western societies, is the advancement of women in education, labour market and political positions. Yet, the silent revolution of women in education, from the feminist movement in the sixties on, has culturally penetrated female attitudes during many generational waves after, finally endorsing the centrality of gender policies as a crucial key even in non-Western countries. This is the most important achievement for the initial concrete utopia of ensuring a concrete principle based on equal access and equalities of opportunities. Though, there is still a gap opened in sociological criticism. It concerns the role that educational systems should and could play preventing the reproduction of other social inequalities: Yet, how is it that an educational utopia has managed to eradicate gender inequalities without making any major steps forward the eradication of other social inequalities?
