Paper Session
Contribution
The paper presents results of the qualitative research which has been conducted as a part of the process of development of system of beginning university teachers training at Masaryk University. It is based on analysis of 19 in-depth interviews (length about 80 minutes) with novice teachers from various faculties of the university. In this paper previous careers of respondents are described. Than the paper deals with the question of what is the beginning teachers’ concept of good teaching. We identify two different conceptions of good teaching. The first conception is dominated by an emphasis on sharing knowledge. The second one is oriented on interacting with students. In addition, we distinguish between the different self-perceptions of respondents - some define themselves primarily as scientists, others as teachers, the last group sees itself as a versatile, balanced, connecting science and research. Interconnection of variables as previous career, conception of teaching, self-perception is explained and interpreted. In conclusion, the potential of using research results in the context of evidence based development of beginning university teachers training system is discussed.
