12 SES 09, European and Country Reports on Infrastructures in Education
Panel Discussion
Contribution
This round table is a reanimation of the annual review workshop at the ECER. It aims at the establishment of a common European perspective on the design, the practices and reflections of infrastructures in education, for a hybrid platform involving different countries. In recent years, the ongoing digitization of educational research and educational practices has created various fields of activities and distributed projects: openness of research with archiving, managing and opening research data and publications; digital methods based on computational testing systems, big data (e.g. learning analytics), or interlinked corpora; digital publication and its usage; or educational practices like the collaborative creation of open educational resources and a range of possibilities for teaching practices. Thereby, various potentials and boundaries have emerged, with frictions owing to the heterogeneous communities involved in education. Network 12 is meeting this challenge of digitization from an infrastructural perspective in a critical, engaged way, fostering exchange, systematization, and reflection on a national and European level.
Four reports, from South Tyrol, Italy, France and Germany, will describe the situation of infrastructures in education on a national and European level. Main national agendas and developments are described, whereby links to a possible common European perspective are examined.
The different reports mainly draw on literature reviews and analyses of studies, political agendas and developments concerning infrastructures in education. Each report focuses on the situation in the selected country but differs regarding the concrete method and selected research corpora.
The contributors from different European countries will each give a short presentation of recent developments and/or historical findings in their respective countries in the field of infrastructures in education. The final discussion aims for identifying common challenges, practices and fields of action on a European level.
