26 SES 09 B, Transnational Tendencies and Nordic School Development (NordNet)
Symposium
Contribution
The first point of departure for this Nordic Network: ‘Transnational tendencies and Nordic School Development’ (NordNet) is the notion that transnational agencies like the OECD and the EU Commission are influencing national policies on education mainly through ways of Soft Governance, and they are maybe also influencing the educational thinking and acting in schools (from kindergarten through to Universities). The second point of departure is the long-standing idea of a Nordic model in education. The myth seems to be very durable but difficult to support through empirical evidence. In the network we are investigating across all five Nordic countries and their educational systems how the influences from transnational agencies are interpreted and translated into national/local ideas and further on to school interpretations and practices. And we post the question: Is a Nordic model being developed in school development? We do that in four working groups: 1) Transnational tendencies and Nordic School Development (NordNet), 2) The Nordic Vision a School for All Meets the Neo-Liberal Educational Policy, 3) Succesful Nordic School Principals revisited
