Paper Session
Contribution
There are researchers emphasizing that the contemporary educational policy including the quest for a lifelong learning has given education a status that reminds of religion. This is not surprising, if one consider how human through for ages has mixed the allied concepts God’s word or the Word with knowledge, reason, idea, explanation, rationality, theory, etcetera. All these words are more or less rooted in the Greek word logos that have been interpret in various ways in both philosophy and religion. The interpretations of the word logos are also related to the old idea of perfectibility, a process where human strives to become more human, more godlike, or even divine.
Instead of viewing religion as the way towards perfection, education and an extended learning has in these days become the only option for those who will reach the top of society or at least to become recognized. Education and learning promise to open the door towards freedom and lead to the truth about life. But, one may ask if there are any other options and any other truths than those that can be reached through education? What will happen with people who search for alternative ways? What truth is available for them?
