Session Information
16 SES 06 B, ICT in Schools (part 2)
Symposium, Continued from 16 SES 05 B
Contribution
Information and Communication Technologies are considered to be an important means of reaching Education for All goals. Knowledge and competencies related to computer use are becoming increasingly important in our knowledge societies. Since schools are responsible for preparing our youths for their professional lives, it is important that they provide them with the necessary computer skills. According to data from the 2003 and 2006 PISA studies, European countries differ with respect to achieving this goal. In the present review, we will explore a number of questions related to differences between European countries. Among these are: (1) to what extend do young people use ICT in and out of school, (2) are there gender differences in ICT use, (3) does computer use influence students’ confidence in their own computer skills and (4) does computer use have an impact on mathematical competencies.
