02 SES 10 C, Learning in and for Entrepreneurship: Insights from Finland, France and the Netherlands
Symposium
Contribution
Education is a context to learn entrepreneurship. There is great variation in the target groups, implementation and aims of entrepreneurship education. This concerns also the national education systems in Europe. The Finnish strategy of entrepreneurship education development has been described as coherent. (European Commission 2007.) However, the practical implementation of entrepreneurship education is seen not yet to have met its targets in Finland (Pihkala et al. 2009). This study examines entrepreneurship education in the context of Finnish initial vocational education. It aims to adduce examples of implementing entrepreneurship education in practice. The study also examines how the execution of entrepreneurship education is able to respond to the perceived requirements imposed to entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial learning in different vocational study fields. The learning objectives set to entrepreneurship education (Hytti et al. 2002) are taken into consideration. The data is based on interviews of teachers and other experts of planning and executing entrepreneurship education in three different study fields. The data is analyzed by using qualitative methods. The results of this study shed light on the current state of executing entrepreneurship education in the context of Finnish initial vocational education. Also future, especially field –specific, development needs within entrepreneurship education are highlighted.
