Paper Session
Contribution
The subject matter of our presentation is a research project which deals with discrimination experiences of young people in Germany. We assume that these experiences are deployed in a context of social inequality; that subject positions are marked by overlapping (ascribed) categories of difference (ethnicity, class, gender, generation, etc.) and that these have implications for young people’s development of counter strategies for dealing with discrimination. In this context we investigate the actors’ “management to belonging” and their own discriminatory patterns of thinking and acting. The study aims at enhancing theory and practice of diversity education by including our research findings on young adults’ dealing with discrimination.
