10 SES 13 B, Analysis of Teacher Educators’ Discourse in Urban Education
Symposium
Contribution
In this paper, the author employs a research design framework for exploring discursive patterns in teacher education. The focus is on analyzing reflective journals of prospective teachers and highlighting how research on their narratives facilitates the understanding of contextual challenges. In teacher education, the initial experiences during student teaching have an important role in shaping developmental potentialities. Student teachers often struggle during the transition from college campus spaces to urban public schools. In this paper, a lexicometric analysis of the initial narratives of three different groups of prospective teachers commencing school experience observations at public schools at an urban setting in central Turkey is presented. Based on an analysis of co-occurring lexemes and correspondences, significant themes in narratives based on initial observations are dimensionalized and interpreted. The proposed design provides the opportunity to investigate the connections between thoughts, factors, spaces, and individuals related to the initial phase of field experiences in teacher education.
