17 SES 13 B (JS), Processes of Borrowing in Education and its Sciences – Historical Perspectives (Part 1)
Joint Symposium of NW 17 and NW 23, second part in 23 SES 14 B
Contribution
The concept of borrowing in education is particularly interesting in order to analyse the evolution of the educational policy since the 19th century for the formation of a Swiss educational area in the Swiss Confederation with 26 cantons having each its own educational system. In this contribution, we investigate the benchmarks and indicators they gradually establish to have a better overview and to compare the different systems. Our research questions are the following: • Which are the benchmarks/indicators taken into account by the different cantons and linguistic regions to manage and compare the different educational systems? • What is the influence of educational sciences on these benchmarks/indicators? • What are the international exchanges about them? We will analyse the journals published by the cantons: “Jahrbuch des Unterrichtswesen in der Schweiz” (1887-1908), which splits in two different journals, one in German “Archiv für das Schweizerische Unterrichtswesen”, the other in French (since 1909) “Instruction publique en Suisse: annuaire” whose comparison is as such interesting for the questions asked. To analyse the contents of this journal, we will combine quantitative (for instance statistical analysis of the indicators/benchmarks) and qualitative methods (analysis of titles and discourse analysis of relevant texts).
