Contribution
Finding relevant information in the vast offerings in print and online is a crucial skill in today´s professional work. This research plans to analyse the information behavior of teachers in their professional context. New information can be relevant in a number of contexts related to teaching (teaching content, teaching methods, organizational information) and can be retrieved in a variety of sources. The questions tackled shall comprise the whole information process starting with the formation of an information need, to information search and information use, e.g. the conversion of information to teaching material. Moreover, the nature of interaction of the user with the services and information offered especially for this target audience online and with other persons is a key point of interest. Analyzing the log files from German Education Server shall give insights into the preferences of content and search strategies. In addition content analysis of the communication in teacher-specific online media e.g. mailing lists, internet fora etc. will serve as data source. Subsequent interviews with teachers shall lead to deeper understanding of the findings and further specifications.
