Annual Report 2013, Istanbul
As usual NW10 had a busy conference with the following numbers:
- Submissions: 189 (14% rejection rate)
- Accepted papers: 163
- Withdrawals: 30
- Session slots used: 56
- Program committee: 38 persons
The attendance at sessions was mostly good although we would need to analyse the return slips to give an accurate picture. Content and thematic focus was extremely varied but a recurring theme tended to be some version of the “theory-practice gap” question. In general the quality of papers was high but we intend to introduce a much tougher quality control framework for 2014.
We had joint sessions with NW 06, NW 14 and NW 24. Programming of JS continues to be a problem within conftool and led to considerable delay in the programming process, but on the other hand these are a desirable feature of ECER. We also co-presented an ERG session on research ethics which was well attended and which received very positive feedback from attendees.
Chairing was problematic due to a large number of last minute cancellations.
