Annual Report 2009, Vienna
Nw 13 saw an increasing number of participants and people interested in the network in the year 2009 and has received more than 100 proposals for the Vienna conference. As in the year before we were quite strict in the reviewing process, finally ending up with a rejection rate of more than 30 %. The six convenors – Jim Conroy (Great Britain), Leena Kakkori (Finland), Zdenko Kodelja (Slovenia), Roland Reichenbach (Switzerland), Paul Smeyers (Belgium) and Sharon Todd (Sweden) – did their best to guarantee a fair reviewing process. Comparing the sessions in Vienna 2009 and Gothenburg 2008 with those of earlier conferences of EERA we could maintain the impression that, in general, the quality of the papers and sessions was improved – surely also by the means of stricter review processes.
Again, as in former years, the sessions, parallel sessions and joint sessions were dealing with a large variety of topics. Sessions topics during the conference included – to give some examples – “Educational Philosophy and Policy“, “Educational Comparative Research" (two joint sessions), "Education and the Presence of the Other" , “The Body in (Physical) Education“, “Spiritual Education and Moral Education", „Difference, Tolerance, and Education", "The Culture of Education”, „Expertise and Experience”, „Education and Religion”, „The Pedagogical Dimensions of Instruction“ and many others…
The dinner of the philosophy of education network took place in the "Rebhuhn" ("gray partridge") in the famous Berggasse (Sigmund Freud) in Vienna.
