Annual Report 2019, Hamburg

ECER 2019 was a very good conference for NW14. We received a large number of proposals. The quality of the submissions was high. A total of 72 proposals was submitted and were reviewed by 13 NW14 members. We used a double-review system. Of those original proposals, 66 were accepted, 6 were rejected and 2 were redirected to other NWs.

During ECER2019, NW14 hosted 3 Joint Paper Sessions with NW4 (Inclusive Education), NW6 (Open Learning: Media, Environments and Cultures) and NW31 (LEd – Network on Language and Education). We had a wide international participation with people from many different EU countries as well as scholars from non-EU countries.

The Network Meeting took place on 5th of September at 12noon. It was chaired by the Link Convenor. 20 people attended the meeting. All were pleased with the organisation, the venue and its facilities. They emphasized the importance of the green orientation of the conference. Free public transport was unanimously praised. All appreciated the quality of the papers in NW14 and that of the keynote speakers. It was felt that the sessions were very well connected and focused. All welcomed the diversity of country-specific case studies. Overall, the sessions were very well attended. Participants to the NW meeting highlighted the quality and relevance of the discussions in the sessions. We were concerned by the increasing number of symposiums presentations in NW14. Co-convenors will aim to better coordinate their actions for ECER 2020.

At the Network meeting, members of NW14 appointed a new link convenor (LC). Rocío García-Carrión has been LC for 4th year period (2016-2019). At ECER 2018 she had announced she will be stepping down the following year and will be shadowing the new LC. She had then invited co-convenors and members of the NW14 to send any expressions of interest to become LC for the next period (2020-2023). Laurence Lasselle expressed her interest. This was very welcome for all the NW members. Everyone thanked Rocío for her fantastic job as LC. Laurence thanked everyone and added that she was looking forward to work with Rocío over the coming months.

Each network holds a Network Meeting during ECER and invites interested researchers to join. We have collected the network meeting minutes.
