Most important developments within Network 14:
Enhanced Collaboration with ERG
Network 14 and the Emerging Researchers’ Group (ERG) have strengthened their partnership to support emerging researchers (ER). We hosted a join event in December 2025.
Bloomsbury Handbook on Communities, Families and Organisations in Educational Research
The draft of the Handbook co-edited by Network 14 Link Convenor (LC) Laurence Lasselle, former Network 14 LC Rocío García Carrión, and Network 14 Reviewer Melyssa Fuqua is now nearing completion. Developed following the celebration of the 30th anniversary of EERA Network 14 in 2025, the Handbook explores how diverse social, cultural, and geographical contexts both shape and are shaped by the dynamic relationships between communities, families, and organisations. Many of the contributing authors are current or former Network 14 Convenors and Reviewers who have presented their research at recent European Research Conferences (ERCs) and European Conferences on Educational Research (ECERs), including ERC/ECER 2026. The Handbook is expected to be published in 2027.
ECER 2026 in Tampere, Finland
We were delighted to reconnect with colleagues and welcome new participants during our sessions at ECER2026. We were grateful for the fantastic efforts of the local organisation team and the EERA office.

A two-part symposium chaired by Taina Peltonen and Cath Gristy about 'Schools and Their Communities: The Impact of Schools Within Communities - Educational, Social, Economic and Environmental'.
A symposium chaired by Silvie Rita Kučerová about 'Constructed Marginality in Rural Schooling and Education'.
A symposium chaired by Annette Woods about 'Teachers, Students, and Families’ Stories of Homework Across Three Countries'.
A panel discussion chaired by Eszter Neumann about 'Ecologies of Education in Contexts of Forced Migration: Schools, Communities, and Non-Formal Providers in Central and Eastern Europe'.
The session entitled 'Research highlights from Network 14 scholars: A collection of featured publications' was dedicated to two major publications by international scholars well known to participants of recent Emerging Researchers Conferences (ERCs) and European Conferences on Educational Research (ECERs): the recently published Handbook on Geographies of Education (Elgar Handbook in Education) and the forthcoming Bloomsbury Handbook of Communities, Families and Organisations in Educational Research (2027).
