Summary of the Network Meeting
The network meeting was attended by 19 participants. The link convenor presented some details on the conference, the number of submissions to the network and the reviewing process.
Quality
Participants in the network meeting were positive about the quality of the presentations. They believed that quality has improved since previous conferences. The link convenor thanked the reviewers, who play an important part in ensuring that accepted proposals are of sufficient quality. He stressed that it is important to maintain this high standard for the years to come.
Attendance
When the conference schedule was being put together several presenters indicated that they would not be available to give their presentation on Friday. Eventually it has been decided by the link convenor, in consultation with EERA office, to skip the Friday sessions. At the network meeting the link convenor stressed that researchers who submit a proposal are expected to be available during all four conference days. Overall, sessions were well attended. Unfortunately, during the very well attended opening sessions there was quite low attendance in the parallel sessions.
Posters
Some of the participants would welcome to be reminded of the poster sessions, since they forgot to pay the posters a visit. One of the participants inquired about the possibility to have augmented reality posters. Another matter is whether there should be an interactive poster session. With respect to the question whether it would be desirable to have the posters in the network rooms or in the central hall, the question was raised whether it is possible to move the posters around, since posters are movable objects. After the network meeting this issue was raised by the link convenor at the convenors’ meeting, but the proposal to move posters around was turned down by the organisers.
Communication
Participants would like to get a reminder about the Network 16 LinkedIn group, and would like to keep the group alive. There is also the Network 16 mailing list that has been provided by EERA and may be accessed via the web pages. One of the participants inquired about the possibility to have a NW16 Twitter account.
Reviewing and chairing
Participants in the network meeting were asked whether they would be available for reviewing proposals next year and for chairing at ECER 2018. Almost all participants indicated they would be available for either reviewing or chairing or both, which is very much appreciated by the network convenors.
