2024 was a special year for the EERA ethnography network, as we proudly celebrated the 25th network anniversary. The celebration took place at ECER at a dedicated event organised by the network’s convenor group. Thank you to everybody who participated in the event and contributed to this memorable evening!
The number of submitted contributions was at a level similar to ECER 2023, while we saw somewhat more accepted contributions to be withdrawn. We assume this might be due to the peripheral location of the conference this year.
Individual contributions were thematically grouped into paper sessions to make them accessible and attractive. On average, sessions were structured to include two to three papers presentations, which provided sufficient time for substantial discussions. Network members appreciated this structure and emphasised that this was beneficial to the quality of sessions.
The network meeting set a focus on enabling discussion and networking amongst participants, with two plenary discussions on experiences within the network, and on ideas for building the network together. Some members mentioned that they would like to see more activities throughout the year besides the main ECER conference. This suggestion is taken up by starting a new series of online events: Ethnography zoom sessions (please read about our plans here under Future Plans).
